A Brief Primer on Gems

Information divulged by Peridot, in-character:

So either by your request, or in a desperate bid to keep you from asking her questions that she has heard a thousand times before, Peridot has sent you a relatively short but dense primer on the physical properties of gems. Though the following is not verbatim to what the primer says, it will convey the following information:

Gems are an inorganic race of space-faring, polymorphic sentient rocks. They are not of flesh and blood like animals, nor are they manufactured from metal or other materials by a different species, like robots or otherwise.

Rather than being born, gems are made by other gems, mass produced and grown deep in the ground over lengthy periods of time in areas that are known as "kindergartens".

The only real part of a gem is literally just that: the gem. Anything else you see around it, the humanoid form that you interact with, is a projected illusion of hard light, "like a hologram with mass". Because of this, gems lack certain qualities that other lifeforms generally possess. They do not age, they do not need to sleep, and they do not need to ingest energy or fuel to keep themselves going.

There are different kinds of gems, as well. Each have their own unique properties, strengths, and weaknesses. Peridot is a Peridot, a type of gem made for mastering technology, engineering, and gemetics. Jasper a specific type of gem under the larger, broader category of Quartz, which encompasses all types of powerful warrior class gems. Their strength makes them ideal soldiers and bodyguards. Peridot goes out of her way to outline both of these types for the benefit of the other crew members, in the hopes that maybe they will finally understand and respect their specific functions... because for some reason you ridiculous organic types don't have this kind of rigid structure??????? what even--

There's nothing much more than that. She does not mention regeneration, or anything culturally related to the Diamonds or their society's imperialistic nature. You'll have to pester her directly for details on that.
