[ She totally panics and hangs up.

[she calls again.] PERIDOT! DON'T MAKE ME FIND YOU MYSELF!

[peridork]

[ She picks up right away this time, flinching at her tone. ]

Don't yell at me, it's not my fault the stupid signal for this cruddy thing is weak in the area where I'm standing right now!

[ GOSH. At least Jasper snapping at her gives her an excuse to be defensive, which is a totally normal and easy state for her to slip back into. ]

[stompadour]

[Peridot won't be able to see the eye roll, but Jasper sounds pretty unconvinced.]

Well, it sounds like it worked.

[peridork]

It's working now. [ She grumbles, trying to get the last word in. ]

Anyway, it's about time you showed up here! Where the hell have you been!?

[stompadour]

[TOO-LONG PAUSE......]

With your informant.

[She sounds really displeased about this.]

[peridork]

[ Geez Jasper what's with the TONE, HUH? ]

I said where have you been, not "who were you with". [ Implications: completely overlooked. ] Is Lazuli there with you now?

[ Because heck, if all three of them are here maybe they can find a way off this wreck and get back to their home planet. ]

[stompadour]

[Sharply:] No.

... No. She's not. I've looked for her. Which is impressive, because before I ended up here I was fused with her. [She spits the word like even saying it disgusts her, but fortunately for her she's never spoken very highly of fusion around Peridot in the past, so...]

[peridork]

Ew, why!?

[ That's all she has to say on that, really. Peridot's opinions on fusion are about as mature as an 8 year old's opinions on kissing. ]

[stompadour]

[Jasper makes a small, angry noise; she speaks in a low voice, and she sounds actually pretty furious.] To defeat the Crystal Gems – that was the plan, anyway. She wasn't exactly as on board as she pretended she was.

[A brief pause. Then:] That doesn't matter now, though. She isn't here. I need you to tell me what I've missed.

[peridork]

[ She knows better than to press for more details, at least. Especially with Jasper sounding that pissed ]

The Crystal Gems...

[ Peridot spits the name distractedly, her words dripping pure spite. ] I had them, you know! Had them pinned down in a death-trap of an ancient landing ship, before this ship's stupid machine pulled me out of the timeline.

[ She pauses a moment before getting back on topic. ] Still, I suppose I shouldn't really complain about being extracted from that disgusting mud-ball.

[stompadour]

[Jasper somehow manages to audibly grimace.] Mm. Of course, we're headed right back there as soon as this vessel gets wherever it's going... however long that's going to take.

[peridork]

What!? [ For a horrible moment, terror jolts through Peridot right to the core, before she realizes... ]

Oh. Because of the Steven? [ She lets out a low, ominous cackle. ] You don't need to worry about that. You see, I managed to complete my mission - no thanks to you. The Cluster is in the final stages of its incubation, that planet will probably be rubble before this ship even reaches it's destination.

[ She sounds positively delighted about this. ]

[stompadour]

[.....]

... You realise Rose Quartz could have been an important asset. Perhaps more so than the Cluster.

[peridork]

[ Wow she wasn't expecting praise or anything but. She was expecting a better reaction than that. ]

So??? What do I care?? They sent me there to check on the thing, not maintenance it. It's not like I was the one that put it there!

[ QUIT MAKING HER FEEL LIKE SHE SCREWED UP SOMEHOW, SHE DID HER JOB!! ]

[stompadour]

[On her end of the connection, Jasper clenches a fist in frustration. She's kind of glad that they're not talking about Lapis any more, but...] Her healing abilities can repair cracked gems! Do you have any idea–?!

[peridork]

Even if I'd known it's not like I can just turn off a massive fusion experiment, Jasper! Find a way to get a message to Yellow Diamond and have her send someone else to go pick up this Rose Quartz if you're that worried about it!

[stompadour]

[UGH. She kind of wants to punch something!!! Peridot is really lucky she isn't physically present for Jasper to shake her by the shoulder.] Don't you care about this at all??

[peridork]

No, I just don't understand what you expect me to do about it!!

[stompadour]

[Jasper boggles at her communicator.]

I don't expect you to do anything about it from here.

[peridork]

Then quit yelling at me!

[stompadour]

[She mutters something mostly inaudible but definitely derisive about new gems. SIGH.]

Fine. Fine, it's not like it matters now anyway if what you said about the Cluster is true.

[peridork]

[ Mollified for the most part, Peridot sighs through her nose in an attempt to chase off her lingering irritation. Gotta get her professional tone back.

She succeeds. Mostly. ]

Well if it's as important as you're implying, we probably should make getting a message to Yellow Diamond our top priority. She may be able to do something before it's too late.
