Remember the experimental Ingress? How when it malfunctioned, it created mergings?

The scientist had research, and who knows more about these sorts of melds than a gem?

W-woah - Hold on a second. Much as I hate to disappoint your frankly flattering faith in my abilities, I think you might be over-estimating how much I actually know about fusion, if that's where you're going with this.

Well, now's a pretty good time to bone up on it if you can find a way.

I got a lot of people in the Med Bay with parts made out of living glass. Ones that can't be replaced.

What about the other Gems? The health of a lot of people and this ship's integrity kind of depend on us figuring this out.

I literally cannot think of two Gems less suited to contributing to an experiment about fusion, than Jasper and Lapis Lazuli.

[The gem sighs, giving her friend an apologetic look through the video feed. She's never been super comfortable about the topic of fusion, and her scientific confidence is still pretty shaken after... recent events...]

Ugh... Look, I'm not saying no, it's just... this sounds like it's reaching a bit outside of my 'comfort zone', as they say. I've done a lot of reading up about the theory of artificially forcing gems together, but not so much about taking them back apart again. And I'm not even sure if I can apply that kind of knowledge to organic biology anyway!

Unfortunately it's not just the patients. It's that this ship is going to be screwed if we can't fix this merging.

Artificially forcing them together is some ground, anyway.
