Peridot has a nose for gold. It's a trait common to all types of dragons, from big to small, no matter what their nature or their diet or their habitat. There's nothing special about her, in that regard. What every dragon doesn't have, is the small size and inherent nosiness that Peridot possesses, which has inexorably drawn her inside this strange little human structure.

Dragons love treasure. It's a well known fact, and it's the reason why she's been lingering in here for far too long. Crawling in through one of the battered windows had been easy enough, and from there she had just followed her nose deeper into the house, down into the basement where, lo and behold! Riches lay in wait.

That's how Lapis will likely find her: in the process of tearing apart her basement stash, pulling out jewels and gold and silver from very containers, in order snuffle at them and roll around in a massive pile of wealth.

It wasn't a very cleverly thought out plan, honestly.

"I know significantly less than a dragon, yeah." She knows that some of them get big and some of them make a habit out of eating people and that some of them breathe fire now.

"Okay, well, we don't eat gold," Peridot says in a rather know-it-all sort of way. "We just sleep on it. It feels good on our scales and it helps keep them shiny and strong."

"Yeah, to me it just seems like they'd jab into unfortunate places." It seems seriously uncomfortable to her, but whatever, she guesses? It keeps the dragon happy, though she's honestly wondering how much of a good thing that is.
periphrasing: (Boring.)

"It probably just seems that way to you because humans have soft, armor-less skin," Peridot says with a shrug.

"Probably," Lapis responds, rolling up her sleeve to show the angry red claw marks that Peridot had left on her yesterday. "We generally wear armour to make up for that. You got me pretty good though."
periphrasing: WTF (This is the sweetest face???)

"Thank you!" the dragon says brightly, perking up a little. Peridot that wasn't meant to be a compliment

[personal profile] mirrortide 2017-03-21 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"That wasn't a compliment." Lapis helpfully points out, rolling her sleeve back down and moving to grab the plate. "If this gets infected we're gonna have a problem, so just know that." Seriously, that's her good arm? And it still stings when she moves it.
periphrasing: (And I feel sorry for you.)

[personal profile] periphrasing 2017-03-21 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh," the dragon murmurs, ears drooping. Now she looks pretty bummed out. "What is... 'infected', anyway? And in my defense, you were trying to put a chain around my head," Peridot argues. "I doubt you'd react any differently if I was trying to do the same thing to you."

"It means I can get sick from it. Really bad." And she'd really rather not have to spend cash on treatment over a stupid dragon scratch. "I know, but that still doesn't make me feel better." Lapis huffs, turning towards the stairs, she's a little grumpy about the whole scratches thing, but it doesn't seem to last long, since she motions for Peridot to follow her up the steps.

Peridot snorts softly and pads after her, chains clinking she walks. "Are you sure you can't take these stupid things off? They're kind of a pain to walk with," she calls after Lapis, navigating the stairs carefully. "It's not like i'm going to run away!"

Not now. Not after Lapis has fed her and given her jewels. That's like, dragon wooing 101.

"I'll take them off after your stuff is here." And she knows where your nest is, in case you try to get any bright ideas, Peridot. "So the sooner we go do that, the sooner you can get them off."
periphrasing: (I'm. Not happy about this??)

[personal profile] periphrasing 2017-03-24 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Another snort, this time more irritable. "Alright fine, so let's go right now!"
mirrortide: (084)

[personal profile] mirrortide 2017-03-24 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Fine, how much do you have anyway? Can it be grabbed in one trip or am I gonna have to grab a wheelbarrow or something?" Because she really doesn't want to make two trips? Today was just supposed to be her relaxing and basking in the afterglow of a heist gone right.

Lapis YOU'RE THE ONE THAT DECIDED TO KEEP THE DRAGON INSTEAD OF JUST FORTIFYING YOUR BASEMENT AGAINST IT GETTING BACK IN, LIKE A SENSIBLE PERSON.

Helpfully, Peridot just shrugs. "It probably wouldn't hurt to bring a few bags."

[personal profile] mirrortide 2017-03-24 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
In her defense a dragon is probably a good guard dog! Even if it's. Small.

And terribly whiny.

"A few bags." Lapis echoes, moving to try and find the sturdy sacks she uses to cart out treasure from nobles homes. It's enchanted, for the record, and it's bigger on the inside.

"This should work."
periphrasing: (What the HELL are you doing)

[personal profile] periphrasing 2017-03-24 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"...Yeah that'll probably be fine," Peridot says with a dismissive shrug. Her hoard was gathered piece by piece, she really doesn't have a good scope of just how much there is in there.
mirrortide: (072)

[personal profile] mirrortide 2017-03-24 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Then let's go." She'll at the very least open the front door for Peridot, but after that she's going to have to lead. Not that Lapis has any idea how far it is to this dragons tree.

She'll probably make fun of her regardless, because she's a huge jerk.
mirrortide: (074)

[personal profile] mirrortide 2017-03-25 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
She does give a low whistle of appreciation when she sees just how far up the hollow is, but she turns her attention to Peridot after. "It's going to be a pain in the ass getting up there."

But that has literally never stopped her, and thankfully she's agile enough to start climbing, not even waiting for the dragon. She wants that treasure real bad,

Then she'd better catch up.

Lapis, as a thief, has a great natural dexterity. And also unbound limbs, though she's probably no tree dwelling dragon good, but that's a moot point right now because of said tree dwelling dragons limbs.

She does, however, have the courtesy of waiting for Peridot just outside her den. "Come on, the sooner we get this done the sooner I can go back for a nap." Lapis you just woke up.

[personal profile] mirrortide 2017-03-26 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's not like you wont be able to come back to it now and again." Lapis replies with a roll of her eyes. She just doesn't want Peridot living in it. "I'm not going to keep you completely trapped in the basement, you know." Even if it'd probably be the smarter thing to do.

Lapis sticks out the bag expectantly, holding it open while balancing on a branch.

That's fair, since her claws are cuffed, but it's not exactly fun to watch. Especially with all the dragon drool now coating said gold coins and jewels.

"What, dragons don't just visit places for old times sake?"
