Peridot has a nose for gold. It's a trait common to all types of dragons, from big to small, no matter what their nature or their diet or their habitat. There's nothing special about her, in that regard. What every dragon doesn't have, is the small size and inherent nosiness that Peridot possesses, which has inexorably drawn her inside this strange little human structure.

Dragons love treasure. It's a well known fact, and it's the reason why she's been lingering in here for far too long. Crawling in through one of the battered windows had been easy enough, and from there she had just followed her nose deeper into the house, down into the basement where, lo and behold! Riches lay in wait.

That's how Lapis will likely find her: in the process of tearing apart her basement stash, pulling out jewels and gold and silver from very containers, in order snuffle at them and roll around in a massive pile of wealth.

"No need to be snappy, Peridot." She shuffles away to put the gems back where she'd kept them, turning to Peridot once she's done. "You can keep that, by the way. Consider it a housewarming gift."

"Oh," she says with surprise, glancing up at Lapis and then down at the gem with a sort of wonderment and newfound appreciation. "Wow... Thanks," she murmurs quietly. Peridot, huh? She can get used to that, she supposes...

"So, question. Are you going to sleep down here with all my stuff or do you want a bed?" Inquiring minds want to know, though it's probably for the best if Peridot doesn't need a bed. Her only spare is moth eaten to keep up the appearances of being abandoned.
periphrasing: (Did I do that???)

[personal profile] periphrasing 2017-03-19 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
....what even is a "bed".

Peridot decides not to ask.

"Eh? Oh. Down here will be just fine," she says, tucking her new gem under both front paws.

Hope you're ready for all your stuff to get pulled out and thrown into one big sleepin' pile, Lapis. At least until Peridot gets her sleepin' shield back from her den.

It's something more comfy than having gold pieces stuck and jabbing into you in weird places that gold shouldn't be because that's not her profession.

Unfortunately for Lapis, some of her stuff already has been pulled out and strewn around, which is. Less than optimal, honestly.

"We'll grab your stuff tomorrow when it's light out." No point in running around in the woods at night. That's just asking for trouble.

YOU'RE NOT A DRAGON, LAPIS, YOU WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND B(

"What, you can't see in the dark?" Peridot teases, amused. She's already looking more and more comfortable down here, sprawling out across the floor with her rear legs stretched out behind her.

"Sure can't. Humans sleep at night." Which explains the piss poor night vision. Which is kind of upsetting. "I can make a potion to make it better though. Waste of resources though since I don't need them."
periphrasing: (aight hands off)

[personal profile] periphrasing 2017-03-20 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Dragons sleep at night too, but we need to be able to see in caves and such," Peridot says, shrugging her wings. "Fine. We'll go in the morning then. I could probably do with some rest anyway, since my day was exhausting and involved some human throwing multiple knives at me and while threatening to powder my blood."
mirrortide: (009)

[personal profile] mirrortide 2017-03-20 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
"It was only twice. Besides, I don't know how to powder dragon blood anyway." It was just a threat. "Wasn't lying about how much I could make off of you though." But Lapis is already heading towards the door anyway, grabbing the empty plate from the floor.
periphrasing: (I'M GOING OUT)

"Try it and I'll eat you," Peridot says, calling after her. She's only kind half? Joking? Whatever. She's gonna start snuffling around for some good loot to scrape into a pile and sack out on. There's a bag of something up on that one shelf that has a good smell about it...

"I'm terrified," Lapis calls back over her shoulder, leaving her treasure to the whims of a pint sized dragon for the night. She feels pretty confident about Peridot staying put over night.

Once the sun rises, Lapis starts on making breakfast, just something simple for her, and a plate of cow for Peridot. Unlaced this time, thankfully for the dragon.

"Time to get up, it's morning." Well, a little past morning, but it's not like she adheres to a schedule.
periphrasing: WTF (This is the sweetest face???)

[personal profile] periphrasing 2017-03-20 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Peridot hasn't entirely wrecked the joint? But things are a good deal messier in here now than they were when Lapis left last night. She's pulled bags of coins and jewels out all over the floor, scraped it all into a huge pile, and has made herself a nice little indentation to sleep in in the middle.

Soon as the basement door opens she's up, ears perked straight up, green eyes peering out over the edge of the nest. She extricates herself slowly, stretching her tail and all six of her limbs, showing off a what is frankly an alarming wingspan for such a tiny dragon, before padding over to the plate. She feels great. She's never had enough loot before to make a nest quite that good, and it's fantastic. Maybe it'll be even better, once she has her shield back.

Wow. All of her everything is all of the everywhere.

She really should have known.

"You look like you've made yourself at home." She comments, moving back when Peridot moves forward towards the plate. She doesn't want any meat chunks flying at her, thanks.
periphrasing: (I am a GENIUS)

[personal profile] periphrasing 2017-03-21 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
"I figured you wouldn't mind, since we're splitting everything down the middle and all," Peridot says pleasantly before attacking the plate of meat. She clears the whole thing off just as quickly this time.

[personal profile] mirrortide 2017-03-21 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, but I told you there was some stuff I wanted to keep." And it better not be in that pile? "I thought we were gonna go through it at the very least."
periphrasing: (Ummmmm)

[personal profile] periphrasing 2017-03-21 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Peridot pauses, lifting her head and rotating it completely around to glance back at the pile. Then she shrugs. "I had to sleep on something. We can go through it later, it's not like I ate any of it or something.
mirrortide: (084)

[personal profile] mirrortide 2017-03-21 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
"I guess. You don't eat gold, do you?" Because if she does, they're going to have a problem. Lapis really should have thought about this more?
periphrasing: (Sweet....?)

[personal profile] periphrasing 2017-03-21 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah you're the one who wanted a guard dragon, you fucker.

She wrinkles her snout. "What? Of course not!" Yeesh. "You really don't know anything about dragons, do you?"
mirrortide: (084)

[personal profile] mirrortide 2017-03-21 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
It wasn't a very cleverly thought out plan, honestly.

"I know significantly less than a dragon, yeah." She knows that some of them get big and some of them make a habit out of eating people and that some of them breathe fire now.
periphrasing: (Please hold all questions)

[personal profile] periphrasing 2017-03-21 01:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Okay, well, we don't eat gold," Peridot says in a rather know-it-all sort of way. "We just sleep on it. It feels good on our scales and it helps keep them shiny and strong."
mirrortide: (074)

[personal profile] mirrortide 2017-03-21 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, to me it just seems like they'd jab into unfortunate places." It seems seriously uncomfortable to her, but whatever, she guesses? It keeps the dragon happy, though she's honestly wondering how much of a good thing that is.
periphrasing: (Boring.)

[personal profile] periphrasing 2017-03-21 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"It probably just seems that way to you because humans have soft, armor-less skin," Peridot says with a shrug.
mirrortide: (086)

[personal profile] mirrortide 2017-03-21 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Probably," Lapis responds, rolling up her sleeve to show the angry red claw marks that Peridot had left on her yesterday. "We generally wear armour to make up for that. You got me pretty good though."
periphrasing: WTF (This is the sweetest face???)

[personal profile] periphrasing 2017-03-21 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thank you!" the dragon says brightly, perking up a little. Peridot that wasn't meant to be a compliment
mirrortide: (084)

[personal profile] mirrortide 2017-03-21 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"That wasn't a compliment." Lapis helpfully points out, rolling her sleeve back down and moving to grab the plate. "If this gets infected we're gonna have a problem, so just know that." Seriously, that's her good arm? And it still stings when she moves it.
